About Us

The saying goes that 'giant oak trees from tiny acorns grow', and that's certainly the case with Agewell. In 1998, the organisation started life as the vision of a small group of older Sandwell residents. Now, the Agewell oak tree is over 10 years old, the roots are well established and its branches reach out to influence many areas affecting older people's quality of life - equality, housing, health, safety, transport and many more.

Agewell is now an integral part of the work of Sandwell Primary Care Trust. It is the strategic voice for older people in the borough and is a well-respected organisation which is making a real and lasting impact on the lives of local people.

Our Aims

Below are the Aims of Agewell as defined by Agewell members:

  • To represent the older people of Sandwell and act on their behalf
  • To advise and communicate their views to partner organisations and other agencies
  • To inform policy at a local, regional and national level by promoting Agewell within Sandwell and across the region
  • To promote improvements in public service
  • To promote a higher and more positive profile of older people
  • To promote social inclusion of older people
  • To promote greater recognition of the contribution older people make to their communities
  • To challenge discrimination on the basis of age
