Oldbury Agewell Local Forum Report
Date of Meeting: 21st February 2008
Main activities / discussion
Visit from Bowel Cancer Screening Nurses.
Visit from Edna Barker, Older People’s Champion Elections.
Oldbury event in March
We were visited by the Bowel cancer screening practitioners who are based at City Hospital and cover the whole of Sandwell. They were talking about the kinds of things people should look out for and detailed the new screening programme for 60-69 year olds which is planned for the near future. People over 69 will be able to request a test which is sent by lab. We also accepted 7 nominations for Agewell Sandwell which will go forward to Agewell’s AGM in April and voted for one member of the Later Life Partnership. We spent some time talking about the upcoming Agewell event in March for Oldbury at the Bethel Convention Centre. People were able to think of different groups and individuals that they could invite and invites were taken to be distributed. Edna Barker, the Older People’s Champion for Oldbury and Smethwick talked about her role in the area and handed out information leaflets so that people could refer to her – either self referral or otherwise.
Any decisions made
The group are interested in infection control and would like to get involved in whatever way possible. There was some discussion about the plans for the new hospital in Smethwick and the group would like updated information – to be organised for a later forum.
