What's going on in the Agewell Local Forums

June 2007

John Allen MBEIn June all six forums have been involved in pieces of work. The Smethwick Agewell local forum met at Thimblemill Library and had Chair of Agewell John Allen MBE as guest speaker. John is originally from Smethwick and talked about how he had got involved with Agewell. The forum also split off into workshops to discuss potentially having a Smethwick Older People's conference. The issues discussed included; where to hold the event, which organisations should be present and me importantly the theme of the event. It was decided the event would be around 'community cohesion' as a number of forum members expressed how it would be good to hear what other communities in Smethwick are involved in.

At the Oldbury Agewell local forum the Sandwell Plan exercise was looked at. The Sandwell Plan is a review on how to transform Sandwell into a better place to live, work and visit. Sandwell Partnership had requested Agewell local forum members to undertake this consultation.  The results were very interesting. Planning for the Langley Summer Fete was also discussed.

The Rowley Regis Agewell local forum John Allen MBE Chair of Agewell attended as guest speaker and we also covered the Sandwell Plan exercise which netted some interested results in comparison to the other forums.

The Wednesbury Agewell local forum spent their whole session on the Sandwell Plan exercise and also had a guest speaker from welfare benefits.

Tipton and West Bromwich Agewell local forum activities are covered in the May report.
