Mayor of Sandwell launches new Agewell website

Mayor of Sandwell launches new Agewell websiteSandwell’s mayor is flying the flag for older residents in the borough by helping to launch the new website.

Mayor Councillor Sadie Smith will be on hand at Thimblemill Library to welcome the website of Agewell, a Sandwell organisation which aims to promote a positive image of mid to later life and challenge age discrimination, on Thursday 22 February. Agewell has been in existence for around ten years and is moving forward in its mission to support and enable older people to have a voice in the decisions that affect them, from transport to health, libraries to social care, parks to ‘meals on wheels.’

The website will explain all the services Agewell has to offer, including information on the local forums the organisation has set up for older people in each of the six areas of Sandwell. These forums enable older people to express their concerns about their own town and do something about them. The website also includes details of activities in which older people can become involved, and there will be a discussion forum which will allow older people to interact with others on a variety of subjects.

John Allen MBE, the Chair of Agewell, said: “We are really grateful to the mayor of Sandwell for helping us to launch this exciting new website, which is another way of giving older people in the borough a voice, as well as making people aware of the huge variety of services that Agewell has to offer.”
