Agewell Local Forum Reports |
Tipton
Last forum meeting was on October 8th, and we had an interesting speaker from Foot Health. We also attended the Public Transport Users Forum on October 3rd at Conegyre Centre and made a big impact at the meeting. For November we are joining forces with Agewell Oldbury to hear speakers on modernisation of Older People's services.
Wednesbury
At our meeting on 26th September we had speakers on health issues and raised concerns about difficulty getting appointments at Oakeswell Health Centre GP surgery. We shall invite the practice manager to come along to our November meeting.
We heard about modernisation of Older People's services at our meeting on 31st October. Most Agewell members would agree with the concept of what is being proposed, but there is room for much more debate on the details and implementation. Unfortunately answers to questions on these were not forthcoming, and the speakers seemed unprepared, given that a list of questions which Agewell members had already thought of had been e-mailed to them two weeks in advance.
West Bromwich
Speakers who had been invited to our October meeting were not able to come, so we utilised the time for information exchange and for thinking up questions we would like answered on the modernisation of Older People's services. Speakers on this topic will be coming to our meeting on November 14.

Other issues discussed
Oldbury forum members were keen to increase the numbers of people attending their forum and were keen to have a stand at the entrance of Savacentre to inform other older people about the forum. As a result, the Community Development Worker wrote to the manager of Savacentre, but as yet there has been no answer.

We have scheduled a joint Oldbury and Tipton forum on the 6 th November 2007 however to discuss the changes planned to older people's services that relate to the closure of a number of care homes in the borough.

Meeting held 25 th October 2007
Main activities
A visit from Travel West Midlands to discuss concerns about closure of a bus route that affects many of the forum members.
Decisions made
Representatives from West Midlands Travel attended. They answered a number of questions from forum members on issues regarding bus routes in particular the 239 route that is potentially being withdrawn that services Springfield and Rowley Regis Hospital . It was pointed out by the West Midlands Travel representative that Centro make decisions on the routes and West Midlands Travel did not pick up the tender for the route therefore it was imperative that Centro should have attended.
