Sandwell Councillors Set for
Health Scheme

In the spirit of Charlie’s angels, an Agewell Older People’s Champion from Sandwell Primary Care Trust joined forces with two Sandwell councillors to sign them up for the popular healthy passport scheme. The incentive scheme from Agewell is aimed at the over 50’s in the borough, with health targets set in return for points which can be exchanged for prizes such as goodie bags and high street vouchers.

Karen Owen, Older People’s Champion for Tipton and Rowley Regis explained: “The whole idea of the healthy passport scheme is to encourage older people in the borough to start doing activities that will improve their health and well being “Sandwell Primary Care Trust runs a number of activities that participants can choose to do, from healthy walks, healthy eating sessions or gentle exercise classes. From each activity you collect points which you can exchange for prizes!”

Speaking about her new healthy passport, Councillor Anne Shackleton said: “I’m delighted to have a healthy passport. I think it’s a wonderful way to take those first steps towards a healthier lifestyle, and many older people in Sandwell would benefit from it too.” Councillor Iris Boucher said: “This is a great scheme, and there are lots of activities to do that will help to improve your health. I’m personally looking forward to attending one of the many health walks across Sandwell.”
